BiA SDK Beta Testing - Calling Modders

BiA: Road to Hill 30 | Mods

Gearbox and a handful of modders are currently testing a beta version of the Brothers in Arms SDK. These modders are making the current version of the SDK better for release of Beta 2. The latest word is that Beta 2 may go live in the next few weeks. If Beta 2 goes well, Gearbox may release the BiA SDK.

Only a limited number of modders will get a chance to participate in Beta 2. If you've got modding experience and would like to participate, let me know.

By the way, it helps if you are familiar with Unreal Ed.

BiA PC Patch This Week - bia.gbxd Coming Back

BiA: Road to Hill 30

Thanks for all the email about this site. bia.gbxd was transferred to a more powerful server a few weeks ago. However, the transfer did not go as smoothly as our hosting provider said it would. For that, the site has been under going maintenance for a while. I'm sorry for the down time. It has become a monthly thing. Hopefully this will be the last time our hosting provider switches servers on us. We've still got some catching up to do, put I'll try to start posting some news.

A lot of people are anxiously awaiting a patch for BiA PC. While the release of the patch is totally up to UBI, Gearbox says the patch is ready. botman even seems to think the patch may come out on Monday (that's tomorrow).
I know a lot of you are anxiously awaiting the next update - I'm just as anxious to get it to you, trust me. We have finished development work, and as I said, it is awaiting validation from QA. Unfortunately, all of the test plans in Europe were not finished in time, and Ubisoft does not release updates on Friday. Therefore, testing will wrap up today and tomorrow and we'll release next week. I just wanted to be up front with you all, having been very patient to this point. I hope everyone understands the importance of thorough QA testing before any public release.

If you're wondering why they would have a policy against releasing updates on Fridays, it's too ensure that if some unexpected problem arises after release that there will be adequate personnel in place to respond in a timely fashion.
botman also described some of the updates available in the next patch:

- Added kick feature to the MP lobby, as well as in game.
- Added player quit message to multiplayer
- Added functionality to update profiles when changing localized versions
- Improved general performance and stability
- Improved Ubisoft game service performance and stability
- Updated karma physics to prevent crash with certain AMD CPUs
- Client would always see the first map played by the server as the current map (now the current map is displayed correctly to the client).
- Fixed typos in text messages displayed in multiplayer.
- Added additional information in "Submit Bug Report" feature that should help developers track down bugs.
- Fixed inconsistency with displaying ubi.com username vs. game profile name.
- Fixed an issue with game options not being saved correctly when users switch between profiles (for users with more than one game profile).
- Fixed screenshot button not working and removed most unnecessary/confusing keyboard bindings (Numpad keys causing display to rotate, for example). Screenshot is now F12. This change will ONLY take effect if you create a new profile.
- Fixed MG42 firing sound stuck in a loop when MG42 fired by AI soldiers.
- Fixed not allowing '-', '_' and '.' in ubi.com account name.
- Fixed problem with Logitech (and other) mice locking up and not allowing the player to rotate horizontally, vertically or both, after exiting from Situational Awareness view (in single and multiplayer) or Promotion (in multiplayer).

Note: A lot of the fixes in the BiA patch is because of you reporting errors and bugs to Gearbox and UBI. If you are still having problems playing this game after the 1.03 patch, make sure you let UBI and Gearbox know.

Brothers in Arms v1.03 patch not until next week.

BiA: Road to Hill 30

This was posted by "botman" over at the Gearbox Tech-support forums (http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=33305):

Just wanted to give everybody an update on the 1.03 patch. We are trying to get as much stuff as possible fixed in this patch and it's taking a little longer than originally anticipated to get some bugs fixed. We are working as hard as we can to get as many problems fixed as possible. I'm not going to promise that this upcoming patch will fix everything for everybody, but we will keep working on trying to fix as much as we can as soon as we can.

Once Gearbox has completed the bug fixes and created the patch, that patch will still need to be approved by Ubisoft before it becomes available to the general public. My best new *GUESS* about the release date of the 1.03 patch will be sometime mid-to-late next week (assuming no other unforeseen problems arrive).

9.1 for BiA PC at IGN

BiA: Road to Hill 30 | PC | reviews

Looks like IGN was first to publish their review of Brothers in Arms for the PC. Looks like the PC version of the game is right on track with the XBOX version reviews - a 9.1/10.
The content and overall quality are exactly the same on both systems, making Brothers in Arms an excellent game no matter which platform you choose. The competition is certainly a little tougher on the PC but, even so, no game delivers quite the same type of experience as Brothers in Arms...Brothers in Arms is a game that, to borrow a phrase from General Patton, "grabs you by the nose and kicks you in the ass...But even when I was feeling hopelessly outclassed by the enemy, I still felt like there were always new approaches to take to circumvent and outwit the opposition. That's what kept drawing me back for more punishment.
